Tricia Chew

My name is Tricia, and I first got a taste of fencing at around 11 years old when I saw a class taking place at one of the shopping malls. I pestered my parents repeatedly to let me take up classes and am thankful that they were willing to support my foray into this sport they knew close to nothing about. Due to financial considerations and time constraints, my fencing journey came to an abrupt halt a year or so later, but I never stopped longing to return to it someday. After a long hiatus of more than 10 years, watching the 2020 Olympics reignited this passion in me again. Being a working adult then also offered me the time and ability to explore possible opportunities to return to fencing.

I am thankful to have been able to find a community of fencers that I am proud to call family in Champions Forge, and have taken up a role in coaching to be able to share the joy of the sport with many others.

As a returning fencer after a long, long hiatus, I truly believe that it’s never too late to pick up fencing (for the first time, or again). I am passionate about coaching adults of all ages, and am always excited to (re-)introduce this exciting sport to new learners or returning fencers. Also, to all females reading this, there is an exciting community of female fencers as well, and this is a sport that emphasizes both mental and physical agility rather than brute strength or aggression (so if you’ve always been curious, please don’t be intimidated and come try it out for yourself!).
